Flight over to America, blog from LA

Category Personal

Before i go to far....  its 10am in LA at the moment which means 5am Aussie and i haven't slept since 7am yesterday..  to say i'm stuff doesn't come close...  So if my grammar and english is worse than usual please forgive me.. and yes i know that’s a challenge because its usually pretty bad anyway..

Well the whole flight was uneventful, ended up in a row of three with a spare in the middle... makes things much nicer really, given a little elbow room.  The guy i was sharing with was a Aussie pro golfer who has spent the last 4 years in the US and was really interesting.  He was bemused at my bourbon drinking and the fact that I did the whole 14 hours with only one toilet break...  Apparently the whole camel reputation has gone to new heights.

Anyway, sitting in the Qantas club lounge in LA trying to regain what’s left of my composure and "blow me down" Ben Brame (used to work with him a few years back) wanders past...  This whole small world thing is just freaking me out..  he's over here with his wife and they are off on a skiing holiday.

So i'm sitting in the lounge with 5 hours to wait for my flight..  and doing what any self respecting geek would do...   steal a phone line and blog..  well, of course..duhhhh.

Will upload a couple of picks and generally try and keep things updated while i'm over hear...  there's a rumour that my wife occasionally reads my blog, so hopefully should be a good way of sharing what’s happening.  So hi Kris, love you heaps, so hi to the weasels, tell em i miss em.   Will be sitting online for the next few hours so hopefully catch you soon.

Gotta run, feeling the need to update the firmware on my camera and see if I can tweak the spam design... oh yeah, must get a show in somewhere in the middle as well....

PS Matt's travel tips...  when you get to a lounge, crawl around on the floor and plug in connections to anything that vaguely looks like a phone jack.. 50% of the time your gonna get one..!    Oh and 9 is the usual number to get an outside line.. and you most likely want to enable blind dialing.. ie don't wait for a dial tone as often they don't have one that makes sense to the modem.

PPS Quick story on Ben, I invited him over one time as he was in Canberra and working at one of my customers.  So Ben came around and my wife did her special roast pork for dinner.   After dinner and having a quiet port etc and we come around to religion.. turns out Ben is Jewish..   took Kris about a week to recover.. even now when I invite someone over the first question is "are they Jewish"...  lol
